Get ready for a fun, action packed day jigging for walleye on the Detroit River with Captain Lance Valentine!
We will fish a variety of different locations as walleye move up and down the river during their annual spawning migration. Some classic areas we may fish include the Steel Mills, Mud Island, Fighting Island, BASF Wall, and the Trenton Channel. You will be jigging with 3/4-1 ounce jigs tipped with artificial bait and a stinger hook. We use spinning reels filled with Fireline for better feel and hook setting abilities.
PLEASE have your licenses before you arrive at the river, since there is no where close to buy one. See the license section below for information on getting your licenses.
Morning Trips begin at 7:00 am

What To Bring:
Warm clothes are a must. We are fishing in April and May and even if the air temperature is warm the water temperature is still in the 40 degree range. Best advice is to overdress and we can store your extra clothes if you get too warm. A good quality warm coat, hat, gloves, and rain gear should keep you comfortable most days. Boots are always are good idea. If bring a bag with clothes, please be sure it can be zipped or snapped shut.
Lance provides comfortable, auto inflating life jackets for each customer, but feel free to bring your own if you would like. Lance also supplies all fishing equipment, but if you have a favorite rod, bring it along. 5'6" - 6' medium heavy action spinning rods are perfect for vertical jigging with the heavy jigs we use.
Feel free to bring lunch, drinks or snacks, but please keep cooler size to a minimum and be sure any coolers have lids that can be tightly secured. Please try to bring beverages in bottles with lids to prevent spilling, and remember, NO ALCOHOL allowed on board.
A camera or cell phone to take a picture of your catch.
Be sure to bring a cooler and gallon sized baggies to take your catch home in.
All anglers 17 and older are required to have a valid Michigan fishing license. Michigan fishing license can be bought online at http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/Welcome/Default.aspx Please have your license before you arrive at the river, since there is no place close to purchase a license.
Canadian fishing licenses: highly recommended since many days the best fishing takes place on the Canadian side of the river. The difference can be significant in both numbers and size of fish caught during your trip. Please have your Canadian license BEFORE arriving at the river, since there is no place in the area to purchase one. You can purchase them online at http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/OC/2ColumnSubPage/STDPROD_091032.html
Notes on Canada fishing: In Canada, all minors under 17 can fish without a license, but each minor must have an adult with a license to fish under. If the minor does not have a license, the minor and the adult are only allowed one limit of fish combined between the two of them.
We do have to inform the Canadian border patrol we are entering Canadian waters. A simple phone call does it and they require name, date of birth and country of citizenship of each person on board. If you have ANY reason to believe you will have issues with customs in either Canada or the US, please inform Lance ahead of time. Minor US violations such as DUI, will prohibit you from entering Canada.
If we will be fishing in Canada, each person on board must be able to prove citizenship with one of the following documents on their person: 1) enhanced driver’s license 2) passport 3) passport card
The following items are NOT permitted in Canada: Firearms, Alcoholic beverages, over 10K in cash, tobacco products.
Food & Drinks:
Bring any food and drink you would like to eat during the day in a SMALL cooler with a lid that can be tightly secured. Please have beverages in bottles that can be resealed to prevent spilling.
No Alcohol or Drugs Allowed - sorry but there is ABSOLUTELY NO alcohol or non-prescription drugs allowed on any Lance Valentine Walleye 101 Charter Trip.
Due to the quick turn around time between morning and afternoon charters, Lance is NOT available to clean fish after a trip. Occassionally Lance can set you up with a fish cleaner who does an excellent job for a small fee, but his availability is not guaranteed.
Libra Marina has space to clean your fish once the trip is over. Bring your own fillet knives if you wish to clean your own fish - power is available for electric knives. Please bring some gallon zip lock bag for the fillets and a cooler with ice to transport your catch and keep it fresh on the ride home.
There are several hotels and motels conveniently located near the Detroit River. These are generally not luxury accommodations but are "fisherman friendly" and keep you close to the hot spring fishing action.
